About This workshop
This intensive intermediate-level workshop offers participants a unique opportunity to design and build their own internet-connected environmental monitoring device. Focusing on practical applications for Rhode Island's coastal ecosystems, attendees will work with ESP32 microcontrollers, various sensors (temperature, salinity, pH), and learn basic soldering and circuit assembly. The curriculum covers data acquisition, cloud integration using platforms like AWS IoT or Azure IoT Hub, and real-time data visualization techniques, empowering participants to contribute to citizen science initiatives or prototype commercial solutions. Participants will leave with a working sensor prototype, a solid understanding of IoT architecture, and the skills to deploy similar systems in diverse environments, fostering a new generation of local tech innovators.
