About This workshop
This intensive one-day workshop will guide participants through the process of building and deploying low-cost Internet of Things (IoT) sensor nodes specifically designed for environmental monitoring in challenging coastal environments. Attendees will gain practical experience with microcontroller programming using Python, integrating various sensors for water quality, temperature, and humidity, and setting up LoRaWAN communication protocols for long-range data transmission. We will cover best practices for ruggedizing hardware for outdoor use, data collection methodologies, and basic visualization techniques to interpret sensor outputs crucial for coastal resilience initiatives. The session culminates in a simulated field deployment exercise, preparing attendees to contribute to real-world conservation and climate adaptation projects across the Gulf Coast region.
