About This workshop
This intensive one-day workshop provides participants with practical skills in designing, assembling, and deploying Internet of Things (IoT) sensor arrays specifically engineered for the challenging conditions of the Alaskan Arctic. Attendees will learn about low-power electronics, ruggedized enclosures, data transmission protocols suitable for remote areas, and the critical importance of reliable data collection for permafrost and climate change research. The curriculum covers everything from soldering components and programming microcontrollers to understanding data analysis basics for environmental monitoring, ensuring devices can withstand extreme temperatures and isolation. Participants will leave with a functional understanding of how to contribute to real-world scientific data collection efforts in extreme environments.
